Dog Groups.com Index

To any of you boxer owners who may have taken offense to what someone posted on the ear topic, I just wanted to let you that there are some great Boxer Groups online that are 100% Natural and Cropped Ear Friendly! I really do enjoy this doggroup, but to those of you who may be seeking a group like the one I have mentioned above, you can email me for the web addresses if you wish. Moderators–I am not in any way trying to advertise other groups, but I do happen to be a member of quite a few different boxer groups online that have lots of great information that is breed specific and just thought it might be nice to share the info

Lisa, just adding my two cents, there are some great Boxer specific boards out there, but even there, there can be heated, opinionated topics. One that I am on currently has one that has over 100 posts arguing the ear cropping topic.(I don’t think you are a member on that one although we are on at least one other Boxer board together.)

In a majority of the cases, that I have seen, people with differing opinions can agree to disagree. But occasionally, that doesn’t happen.

Heh, I was a little insulted when I read a webpage from a link on here stating whether or not you should crop a boxer’s ear based on their ear type. It said that my poor little girl has helicopter ears and she looks stupid with them and that they should have been cropped … I think its funny though… and I still love her regardless πŸ™‚

Don’t I have cute ears?

Yes you do!

And how could anyone not love their boxer regardless (or any other dog for that matter)

With a Boxer in the family you always have a lot of fun,

it’s like having a litel clown in the family πŸ˜‰

I think she has very cute ears!!!

How can anyone not look at that sweet face and not fall instantly in love with her. She’s adorable and probably thankful that you didn’t put her through that pain. Cropping her ears would take away the adorable characteristic she exudes.

Ear cropping is one thing…… CRUEL! How would you like it if when YOU were a baby and your parents decided to give YOU elf ears? you wouldnt!! boxers are born with regular floppy ears for a reason, thats the way they come. natural is definately the way to go. i think that cropping ANY dogs ears is cruel. i also think tail docking is a cruel practice (even though my little boys had already been done before we bought him)

just my .02

The debate on cropping dog’s ears is a very emotive one. Everyone has a point of view which I respect. However, I have cropped a Boxer bitch once because I thought she would have fly-ears. I will never do it again! It was a horrible and traumatic experience for me more than the bitch!

I am still massaging and taping my Boxer’s ears. My preference is for them to lay down nicley. I really hope his ears wont always fly.

If they do…I will love him just the same! But I am not going to give up yet.

I personally have owned three boxers. One was stolen from us, one is at the rainbow bridge, and Gracie (classic fawn) well she is I am not sure if she is with us or basically a part of us . All of them have had their ears left natural. I am sorry it does look good for them to be cropped, but I can not imagine putting one of my children through that painful experience. I think truly though all BOXERS are beautiful. There just ain’t no discrimination here. ALL COLORS, ALL SIZES, ALL EAR TYPES, and ALL TAIL TYPES. I must say I am just BOXER HOOKED.

I too love the cropped look, but I’ll never do it! The natural way has so much personality I think!

I like both looks but wouldn’t have the heart to crop if I had the breed.

I have seen a few boxers with tails, but they are typically in rescue or shelters. And I have only seen pictures. The last one I saw was a male that was to weak when he was found as a pup to have his tail docked so he still has his natural tail. I will say that it is rare to see one but they are still beautiful.

taureau, I can hook you up with some pics of a Boxer with a tail. My first Boxer was a mix and she had a tail. Absolutely amazing she was, I will find some pictures to put up when I get our scanner back in order.

BAGSBOXERS, I agree with Fogel712 about any forum that discusses Boxers or basically any breed is going to have opinionated discussions on cropping and docking. Everyone is going to have their opinion and we try not to step in unless it gets out of control as I think everyone should be able to voice their opinion as long as they state it in a nice, constructive way.

PS LiQiCE, love the picture of your baby!

Well said Andy.

Over the last week….I have given up on taping and massaging my dogs ears. MonaMia….your dogs ears lay perfectly….that is what I wanted…but Rocky’s ears are not agreeing with that idea. They fling and fly all over the place…up-down…left-right…half of each! Oh well!

Mostly they seem to lay like a bulldogs rose ear.

must have been an act of God, bc I had never heard of taping of the ears until someone stated it on here!! Thanks by the way. Dawn-your puppy is adorable and honestly every time i see your avatar, I think the ears are too cute!

Thanks MonaMia,

In the avatar photo….Rocky was about 9 or 10 weeks old…that

is about the time his ears started to ‘fly’. As you can see they are

sitting really high on his head. Now he is 6 months old and they

are really WILD! I tried taping and massaging for about 1 month,

but have since given up. About 2 days after removing the tape, they would ‘fling again’…..I would still recommend people to try it if they had concerns or wishes for the nice lay down ears. I really think it did not work because his ears were already ‘set’ by the time I found the

information on what to do. I bet it would work successfully if taped at around 2-3 months of age…..but by 5 months, they were already set in their wild ways!

Pure-breed… Seven years old with tail and uncropped ears… Not from shelters, not from rescue… Just a tragedy in a litter – Kutsikas (his name) was the only one who survived… So the breeder doesn’t crop and docked him.

For now docking and cropping are forbidden about for two years in Estonia… Discussions are still running… but by time they have weakened… People get used to…

I think Rocky’s ears are adorable… they make me happy every time I see that photo… you just can’t look at him without grinning. I really wish Flappy-Doo’s ears were floppy. I do think floppy ears are funny-looking, but not funny in an odd, negative way… funny as in cheer-me-up, laugh-out-loud, can’t help but love that dog kind of way. If we ever do get another Boxer I am sincerely hoping for floppy ears.

My boxer is with tail and uncropped ears, too. As it was said earlier, it is not allowed in Estonia any more.

And I have massaged her ears just couple of weeks when she was ~3 months old and there have not been any more problem of them.

That is a BEATUTIFUL white boxer! Just gorgeous! I would take him with or without the tail! Lovely.

LOVELY BOXERS! I love their looks with or without tail, but the more I see of the floppy or silly ears the more I like them. We(my friends and family) have all decided that they, for one thing, seem to look more appoachable/ friendly. Fritz is a therapy dog with elderly and will soon be doing a “reading with dogs” group and it helps to look a silly or friendly way. I’m not saying that cropped ears make them look “mean” just a little more intense. I hope I didn’t hurt feelings by how I said this, but do you know what I mean?

Oh, and it seems that the “show’ boxers ears are really tall. I’m not a fan of that.
